| ITEC Diploma in Sports Massage | | | | Pre-requisite: Students must hold a ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage or Body Treatments or equivalent |

| This course is for massage therapists who wish to provide treatments for individuals engaged in sporting activities and those seeking relief from chronic muscle conditions. Sports massage therapists not only carry out treatments for sports injuries, but provide treatment before, during and after physical activity, helping recovery time and aiding an athlete’s performance. |

| Course content includes the following: |

 | Changes that occur during exercise to the muscular system |
|
 | Origin, Insertion and Action of muscles |
|
 | Effects of stress on muscles during sport |
|
 | Joint structures and joint supporting systems |
|
 | Effects of stress on muscles during sport |
|
 | Changes that occur during exercise to the neurological system |
|
 | Principles of training and over training |
|
 | Principles of injury prevention and management |
|
 | Explain the use of stretching massage movements |
|
 | Techniques of thermotherapy and cryotherapy (ICER) |
|
 | Understand and explain the effects of massage on muscle and other soft tissue |
|
 | Understand, explain and demonstrate the classical massage movements where appropriate |
|
 | Sports massage techniques for treatment of injury, pre-event, during/between event, Post event, Corrective, Preventative, Conditioning |
|
 | Common sports injuries that can be treated after medical approval |

Course Duration: This course will be held every Tuesday from 6.30pm - 9.30pm for 30 weeks |

Course Fee: €1750 (includes exam fee). A non refundable deposit of €450 is required to secure a place.
